A Topper for Me…

artwork by JD Munder

Over the past few months we have been doing home improvement projects including painting our kitchen.

Fresh painted kitchen ready for guests

I really wanted a topper for above our bay window that would be unique to us.

I am a huge fan of Sticks, Inc. They have wood furniture with earthy designs. I’ve only seen their products on-line and I think their furniture is fun and creative; but -unfortunately, their products are just not in my budget range.

After staring at our bay window and wishing – I figured – I’m an artist – right?

So, I decided to make a topper myself.

I bought a wood burner, designed the layout, bought some wood (11.5″ x 48″), painted, painted, and painted some more… and Ta Da – I now have a topper, unique to our family, hanging above our bay window.

Here are some videos of the project (sorry they are a little wonky so hopefully you won’t get sea sick watching them).

Here is the topper after wood burning the design.

Here is a video of the finished topper.

I wanted the design to have images that would be something special to us, so moving from left to right I have the design transitioning from night to day and spring to winter. The four seasons represent something special too – home is spring, camping on a river was something we did in the summer, fall is the best time for our vacations, and the holidays in winter are always special to us.

The center of the design has a tree with our initials carved in it.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit.

If you have the time, please stop by here next week; I think I’m going to make a pot of Tortilla Soup and if I do, I’ll share the recipe with you – I love my Tortilla Soup.

Take Care!
